COLLADO DEL RESINERO
High mountain trail with breathtaking views, rich flora and fauna, ideal to enjoy in spring and autumn, perfect for nature lovers.
This is a very attractive, comfortable and highly natural trail, which runs near the famous King's meadows and along the left bank of the Fonfría ravine, beautiful and wide, where you can enjoy the breathtaking views as you walk along this spectacular high mountain route. This trail is ideal for spring and autumn, when we will find the Mediterranean high mountain forest at its best, and although in winter when the snow covers everything it does not lose in beauty at all, it gains in technical difficulty, due to the accesses and the progression itself. We start our route in the meadows of El Rey, which we will skirt along the left side, gently gaining height until we reach the Pozo de la Nieve pass. There we will have impressive views of the entire meadows, surrounded by great peaks, among them the highest in the Sierra de Baza Natural Park, El Calar de Santa Bárbara, which with its more than 2,200 metres overlooks these meadows in a postcard of the highest scenic value. The Prados del Rey are one of the most visited areas of this natural park, high mountain meadows flanked by wild pines which, despite being relatively small, are of great interest, not only botanically but also in terms of scenery, especially in spring and early summer, when this green alpine meadow is at its most splendid. As we gently gain altitude, we can observe whether there are small ponds or pools in this alpine meadow, as the soil favours their appearance in the wetter months, a fact that will undoubtedly provide us with some beautiful photographs. Likewise, the botanical richness of this area is extremely high, with the presence of a large number of interesting plants, typical of the sheep pastures of the Sierra Nevada Natural Area, such as the Sierra Nevada clover. Once we have passed the first pass, our path begins a gentle descent that will take us to the end of the trail, but not before continuing to show us some beautiful scenery. Leaving behind the Prados del Rey and the Calares de Santa Bárbara and La Boleta, the impressive Fonfría ravine opens up before us, which we will walk along its left bank, taking in its scenic and natural grandeur at every bend in our path as an improvised viewpoint. This ravine is home to the well-known Fonfría pine forest, located around the spring of the same name. It is one of the shady areas of greatest botanical and scenic value in the Sierra de Baza, as it is home to a redoubt of Euro-Siberian forest, made up of wild pine forests, the most southerly in Europe. The Fonfría site, moderately protected from the wind, has allowed this magnificent pine forest to grow. The vast majority of the pine forest of La Fonfría is autochthonous, except for the valley floor, which was intensively repopulated at the end of the 60s and beginning of the 70s. On our walk we can also enjoy the impressive views of the right bank of the Fonfría ravine, with its large cliffs and natural shelters located on the suntrap of La Boleta. A little before the end of our walk, we can enjoy the lushness of the Fonfría pine forest and a peculiar natural shelter used to protect livestock, called the carrot cave. The arrival at the end of the path is marked by the perfect view of a wide pass, the Collado del Resinero, which gives its name to our path. This pass separates two peaks of more than 2,000 metres; the first, the Calar de los Tejoletos, which we have skirted along its slope throughout our route; the second, located in front of us, the Picón de Gor. This peak is the highest and westernmost peak of the Sierra de Baza. It is named after the town of Gor, the municipality to which it belongs.
