CANALEJA ALTA-PRADOS DEL REY

CANALEJA ALTA-PRADOS DEL REY

A trail surrounded by nature, ideal for enjoying the scenery, wildlife and local mining history, perfect at any time of the year.
The trail starts next to the Canaleja Alta Recreational Area and takes us to the area around the Prados del Rey, one of the most emblematic areas of this natural park and an area of maximum protection. We can choose between the two variants of the path: Following the East variant, which is longer, we cross the Fuente de los Tornajos, used for livestock, before reaching Collado Clarín, where the Los Neveros path begins. The western variant, which is shorter and steeper, runs along a section of the GR-7, which crosses this protected natural area. On a large part of the path there are cairns which are milestones indicating the limits of the public mountains. The route crosses a beautiful forest of wild pine forest (a mixture of autochthonous and reforested) with specimens of deciduous vegetation (maples, sorrels, mustards, etc.) that take advantage of the humidity of this shady area. It is ideal for walking at any time of the year, with the attraction in autumn of listening to the bellowing and the landscape of deciduous trees. When we reach Prados del Rey we can complete our visit with several trails that are in the surroundings of Calar de Santa Barbara and that will allow us to learn more about the mining past of these mountains.
