Alcrebite Fountain

Alcrebite Fountain

This serene spring offers sulphurous waters known for their medicinal properties, ideal for skin treatments, set in a tranquil natural environment.

The Fuente del Alcrebite, also known as Fuente del Huevo, is a spring of sulphurous waters traditionally used for irrigation and, thanks to its medicinal properties, appreciated by the locals for treating skin conditions. Its waters are collected in a large pond that captures the spring's flow. The term alcrebite means sulphur in Arabic, a name that alludes to the characteristic smell given off by its waters, similar to that of rotten eggs. Although it may seem unpleasant at first, this smell disappears after a few hours of rest, leaving a water that has been highly valued since ancient times. The oldest documentary reference to this spring appears in the municipal records of February 1508 and in a report concerning a lawsuit over an ejido. It is believed that its water comes from the Sierra de Baza, filtering through carbonate and detrital rock formations that enrich its composition. Today, the Fuente del Huevo is a serene and peaceful spot, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the natural environment that surrounds it.
