Statue Homage to the Emigrant of Baza

A moving monument next to a historic 17th century convent, ideal for exploring architecture and sacred art in a setting full of history and emotion.

Dedicated to remember the emigrants from Baza, formed by a couple and their daughter embracing each other symbolising a farewell. It contains an inscription that reads: ¨For years, many men and women from Baza had to emigrate in search of a better life, leaving their loved ones behind. Dedicated to all of them". It is next to the Church and Convent of San Antón. CHURCH AND CONVENT OF SAN ANTÓN (17th century) Initially the church of San Antón had another location in the suburb of Churra. Later a hermitage was built on its current site, which was closed to worship at the beginning of the 17th century, donated to the Franciscan Recollects in 1609. The church was completed in 1663. It has a Latin cross floor plan with a hemispherical vault in the transept and a half-barrel vault with a choir loft at the foot of the main nave. It preserves interesting remains of mural paintings and medallions in relief in the transept area. The façade has a two-section apsidal façade, with a niche in the upper section. The convent's outbuildings have been greatly transformed by new constructions on the grounds.
