LA MERCED PIPE
It was one of the outlying districts of the medieval Moorish city, located in the area we know today as the Barrio de San Juan, also known as the Morería. The Caño de la Merced served as a traditional fountain, supplying water to the inhabitants of the area near the convent and the church of La Merced. Its presence is evidence of its importance as a historical urban element, although it is not necessarily monumental or widely documented in brochures or digital resources. The proximity of the area around La Merced to medieval suburbs and neighbourhoods outside the walls, such as Churra, and the historical use of areas outside the walls - including Algedid - for housing and social activities, reinforces the idea that this spout formed part of a fundamental hydraulic infrastructure, linked to urban growth and reorganisation after the Christian Conquest.
