WATER STREET PIPES

This historic street, with its five-century legacy, showcases innovative flood management and features a trough near an ancient gate, attracting curious tour...

Calle Agua has more than five centuries of history. This road formed part of the old road that linked Lorca and Granada, and its name is no coincidence: it served as a natural channel to collect the floods of the Rambla de la Mancoba and the Fuensanta. To protect it from the frequent floods, in 1518 it was covered with a falsework, and the street was placed directly over this structure. Today, Calle Agua preserves a witness to its past: a trough next to the old gate of Lorca, a reminder of the ingenuity with which the challenges of water were faced in previous centuries.
