The municipal building in the Plaza Mayor is located in an 18th century building (a former prison and later an educational centre) and is the headquarters of the main municipal administrative services and local government. Located in the square of the same name, together with the collegiate church of the Encarnación, popularly known as the Iglesia Mayor, and the old town hall (16th century) and current site of the Archaeological Museum, it is one of the most renowned heritage sites in the whole city, making it a must-see for tourists, and is home to the Citizen's Advice Office and the entry registry, the mayor's offices and the municipal departments of Governance, Economy, Finance and Personnel, Culture and Education and Consumer Affairs.
