Old Butcher's Shops (16th century)

A unique historical building with U-shaped architecture, wooden balcony and heraldic coats of arms dating from 1568, a unique example of a 16th century slaug...

Located in the suburb of Churra outside the walls of the medina and partially preserved, they are one of the most unique historical constructions in the city, as well as one of the few examples of slaughter houses from that period that remain in the whole country. It features a balcony on wooden corbels with a gallery supported by wooden footings and footings, also made of wood. Below this, a heraldic programme appears on the façade with the coats of arms of the city, Felipe II and the corregidor D. Miguel de Texeda, as well as an inscription with the date of construction: 1568, and on the south side, next to Zapatería street, there is a shed on wooden beams supported by a marble column and a wooden right foot. This construction corresponds to the old slaughter houses that were placed outside the city walls to avoid unpleasant smells and next to watercourses to wash the cattle that were slaughtered there.
