Mirador Zújar - Freila

A unique natural environment with contrasting landscapes, cave houses, hot springs and adventure sports, ideal for cultural tourism and outdoor activities.
FreilaLocality set in a natural environment of great singularity and scenic beauty. Here the small fertile meadows contrast with the wastelands with dry, reddish-coloured soils. Freila is characterised by a series of interesting tourist resources, including a nine-metre high tower that belonged to an ancient medieval castle, several sections of a wall and a 16th century parish church dedicated to St. Mary of the Annunciation, set in an urban area dominated by the presence of cave houses. Its proximity to the Negratín reservoir favours the practice of water sports such as canoeing, rowing or sport fishing, and enjoying a cool swim in its beaches.ZújarZújar is located at the foot of the Cerro del Jabalcón between the Sierra de Baza, the Hoya de Baza and the Sierra del Pozo. It is a landscape made up of ravines and wadis that cross a very productive agricultural plain. There are also thermal underground waters that are used in the well-known Baños de Zújar baths. The historic centre is very diverse, with a Moorish style quarter, made up of 17th century houses, and another dominated by cave dwellings. The most singular historical buildings are the Church of Nuestra Sra. de la Anunciación (16th-18th century), the Almazara and chimney of Don Periquito, the Casa de los Rebolledo or Cuartel Viejo, and several hermitages scattered around the natural surroundings of the municipality. One of these is the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Virgen de la Cabeza, located on the summit of the Cerro del Jabalcón. This natural vantage point is an ideal place for the practice of adventure sports such as free flight, hiking, cycling, climbing, enduro or water sports.
