Minor Seminary

Minor Seminary

Historic building with a converted façade and a large inner courtyard, ideal for admiring the architecture and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
Its aim was to promote secondary education among the young people of the city and its abbey, who were also required to serve in the choir of the main church, through the provision of a dozen scholarships and under the direction of a rector and a vice-rector. After its suppression, together with the collegiate school, it was re-founded as a section of the seminary of Guadix, but it maintained a languid existence until its disappearance at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1945 it housed the college of the missionaries of the Divine Master and has recently been completely remodelled to house a residence for priests. The façade, originally made of brick walls and masonry caissons, nowadays very much transformed, presents an irregular distribution of openings in which its simple façade stands out with a semicircular arch framed by brick pilasters, behind which a large interior courtyard opens up with galleries supported by pilasters.
