The Professional Conservatory of Music "José Salinas" is a Public Centre dependent on the Department of Education of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, created as an Elementary Conservatory of Music in 1991, with the only specialities of piano, guitar and violin. Its original location was the old building of the Baza bus station. In the academic year 96/97 the speciality of clarinet was introduced, and later the transverse flute became part of the staff. In the 2001/2002 academic year, the speciality of Cello was introduced and in the 2002/2003 academic year, thanks to the work and interest of all the members of the school, the parents and students, and the local administration, the school was extended to become a Professional Music Conservatory. That same year, the centre moved to its current location, in Blas Infante Street, and little by little, the different teaching departments increased the number of specialities on offer, the latest incorporation being percussion in 2008.Currently the centre offers studies in thirteen instrumental specialities: piano, guitar, percussion, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and trumpet, and for several years the members of the centre have been aiming to expand to all the specialities of a symphony orchestra, incorporating the following: trombone, tuba and singing.
